Time to dust off those drums and bring them along. This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn to re-head a drum by re-heading your own. Glasshawk will re-head a drum in class so you can see step-by-step how it all works.

Anyone can attend to learn how but, please email Glasshawk for materials needed if you want to bring a drum to re-head.

Drummers are welcome to join in and if you feel like getting up to dance – all the better!

Simply Saidi with Miramar
Saidi, a stong, earthy dance and form of folklore from Upper Egypt, is danced by both men and women. The Saidi rhythm starts with strong, distinctive beat (dun) followed by two more duns; it is the original, get up and party music!

Saidi dancers use a stick or Assaya for men and a more feminized cane for women. Miramar will teach basic Saidi steps in place, traveling steps and how to swing and incorporate the cane in your dance. She will also provide historical and cultural information.

Canes will be available for sale and/or dow rods for practicing the twirling. Please bring a cane if you have one.

OTHER WORKSHOPS

Singing Workshop: Lift Every Voice and Sing presented by Heather Hightower

Using simple a cappella songs, group warm-ups, international canons suitable for any level of singing, and un-intimidating improvisation, enjoy feeling the connection to your body through your divine musical instrument – your voice.

Singing in the choral tradition is the greatest of human equalizers – we all have a voice, we all have a body, and we all can make some sort of sound (and for those few exceptions, every good choral group needs a rhythmic accompaniment!). Tap into the unique collective consciousness formed by participants, and enjoy having fun making sound.
